I would find elections easier to tolerate if our country had a unified view of morality.  How do I pick the “right” candidate when I can’t understand what really is right or wrong?

A commentor left the following in response to a previous post:

If a Christian is already indoctrinated/socialized to think they know what truth is, why would they magically decide to cross check their religion’s version of reality with other sources?

Does it require “magic” for a religious person to open his/her mind?

This story about prisons in the United States highlights a fundamental flaw in American’s thinking. We have this expectation that society should function in a particular way. It should be peaceful and prosperous. And when someone doesn’t conform to that ideal that person is seen as a problem. The most expeditious method of dealing with them is to get them out of the way. So, rather than giving that person the tools to change their life we just shove them in a small box and pay more people to keep them in the box. Then we call it justice.

Which step in this routine is flawed?

Some of us believe in God. Others of us do not. That belief is developed as we grow up, attend church or don’t.

But do we have a choice beyond this “indoctrination?” Are we able to move past the teachings of our youth and think for ourselves?

Will you vote for a U.S. presidential candidate who seems to think Canada, also, has a president?

Did you think Canada had a president?  This guy knows better.

I can’t help but think about this very question these days. I’m working at a job that I could not be less thrilled about. It’s a good company to work for. But I lost my taste for my work months ago. I’ve been hanging on to hope for a new opportunity that does not seem to be forthcoming, despite hints to the contrary. And my boss just quit. So, I now have more responsibility in a role that leaves me emotionally exhausted each day.

But, this job is not who I am, right?

Like police protection, fire protection, and so forth; health care as a human right should be provided to all citizens, not just those whose employers decide to provide it.
